1850 Molotschna Colony Census Data for the Settlers in Paulsheim in 1852

Prepared July 2007 by Tim Janzen

In 1852 the village of Paulsheim was founded in the Molotschna Colony.  During the period of time that the village was being founded various documents pertaining to the settlement of the village were sent to the Guardianship Committee for Foreign Settlers in South Russia.  These documents were placed in the Odessa Region State Archives in Fond 6, Inventory 3, File 15751.  Included with the documents were extractions from the 1850 Molotschna Colony Census (Revision List) for those families that moved to Paulsheim.

I have translated that census material from Russian and it is found below.  Additional documents such as heads of household lists for those villages from which the Paulsheim settlers were from have not yet been transcribed.  A portion of one page (page 51) is missing on the microfilm.  A copy of that page should be acquired from the Odessa Archives at some point.

File 15751 was microfilmed in 2000 and copies of the microfilm of this file may be found at the following archives:

  • The Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies, Fresno, California
  • The Center for Mennonite Studies, Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kansas
  • Mennonite Historical Society of British Columbia, Abbotsford, British Columbia
  • Mennonite Heritage Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
