2006 Annual General Meeting & Spring Conference

The Mennonite Historical Society of Alberta is pleased to
sponsor a celebration of the 80th Anniversary of Russian
Mennonites coming to Coaldale, Alberta (1926-2006). The celebration will be held at the Gem of the West Museum,
located at 1306 - 20th Street North, in Coaldale Alberta on
June 2 and 3, 2006.
The schedule of events is as follows:
On Friday, June 2. beginning at 7 pm there will be a
presentation by Dr. John B. Toews, well known Mennonite
historian. Dr. Toews is also the author of Lost Fatherland;
With Courage to Spare; Czars, Soviets and Mennonites; and
Perilous Journey: The Mennonite Brethren in Russia,
1860-1910. In addition he recently translated and edited The
Diaries of David Epp: 1837-1843.
The Coaldale Mennonite Male Choir will also be on hand.
The Annual General Meeting of the Mennonite Historical
Society of Alberta will be held from 9 am to 12 noon on
Saturday June 3.
Lunch will be available at a cost of $10 per person. Those
wanting lunch must RSVP Helen Toews (403) 345-5801 or Colin
Neufeldt (780) 433-2127 by May 25. Only those who RSVP will
receive lunch.
At 1:30 pm there will be a memorial cemetery tour of
gravesites of influential Mennonite leaders and
personalities from the Coaldale area. The tour will take
place at the Coaldale cemetery beside the Gem of the West
Museum.
There will also be displays and exhibits on Mennonite
history.
