Administrative/Biographical History
The Mennonite Mutual Relief Insurance Company began as a domestic Christian relief program operated as a congregatinal cooperative. While incorporation under the Insurance and Societies acts were considered as early as 1942, formal organization only was established in 1953 when it determined to be independent of those two approaches and became accountable to the Vertreter Versammlungen instead. Each congregation provided a treasurer and two assistants to administer the program. It was finally incorporated in 1960 and established a permanent office in Calgary in 1973.
