Title and Physical Description
Mennonite Central Committee Alberta fonds. -- 1973-1997. -- 9.75 cm of
textual material. -- 9 colour photgraphs
Administrative History
Various Alberta inter-Mennonite efforts preceded the Mennonite Central
Committee (Alberta): the Burial Fund, Medical Aid Plan, Canning Factory,
and the Immigation and Settlement Service. MCC (Alberta) Formed in 1965
at a meeting of the Alberta Mennonite Relief and Immigration Council
where 66 delegates from 27 churches attended. It reports to MCC (Canada)
in Winnipeg, MB which in turn reports to MCC (International) in Akron,
PA. As a local arm of MCC (International), it's mission is also to "demonstrate
God's love by working among people suffering from poverty, conflict,
oppression and natural disaster; serves as a channel for interchange
by building relationships that are mutually transformative; and strive
for peace, justice and dignity of all people by sharing our experiences,
resources and faith in Jesus Christ.
The first executive were: A.P. Nickel, Coaldale, Chairman; Frank Bergen,
Rosemary, Vice Chairman; H.H. Siemens, Gem, Secretary. The first staff
person was Ruth Quiring in the role of bookkeeper, hired in approximately
1973.
It has affiliate organizations in Calgary Mennonite Centre for Newcomers,
Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Mennonite Disaster Service
Alberta, & Ten Thousand Villages Alberta and also operates Thrift
Stores in Calgary and Lethbridge.
Custodial History
The records were transferred to the Mennonite Church Alberta and donated
to the MHSA in July 2002.

The fonds consists of annual and other reports, and correspondence of
the whole organization as well as committees/divisions. The fonds consists
of five series of records: A) Governance,

Help, and F) Photographs
